Is anybody out there?

I figured I better dust off the ol'computer and fire up the interlink connection.  And what better time to freshen things up a bit?

Mom and Violet curled their hair the other weekend.

All this and brains, too...

One of Henry's favorite new activities is wasting tape.  This piece combining two of his main passions -- action figures and tape.  This is a whole role of the good 3M stuff people.

What can you do?  We're so proud of our little guy.

I shaved my beard.
We had to put our dog to sleep.
Everything else is totally golden.
Ready for spring time.

Sorry about your loss.

(Not to be flippant but I meant the dog, not the beard.)

Thanks Belsum. Sadly, I think the kids were actually more affected by the beard.

Good to hear the family is well. I love the curls and the tape creations!

Sorry for your loss, too. We're facing the same (very near) future with our dog and I wanted to ask how the kids reacted to it, or any explanation tips. From your comment, however, it sounds like it wasn't a big deal for them.

Kate - Henry was upset about the dog for a day or so and still brings it up from time to time. I think Violet is too young to really make anything of it. Although she likes to blurt out to friends and strangers that our dog is dead -- which can be akward sometimes.

As far as explanations, mama takes Henry to Sunday school and I believe she told him that our dog and goats etc. go to the Jesus Farm when they die. Henry seems ok with that but has a lot of questions as you could probably imagine.

I don't know what your situation with your dog is but I'll share this in case you have a similar situation. Our Ike was having hip problems and in a lot of pain but had always been really good and gentle with the kids. Violet would take blankets and stuffed animals and cuddle with the dog when he slept on his little dog bed. But Violet kinda rolled on the him one time and he growled and yipped. We've heard horror stories and I know someone that has had an old dog bite a child in a similar situation so it kinda freaked us out. I was really bummed out about it but it wasn't a difficult decision.

Like two days later, Henry somehow had it in his mind that we should buy him some chihuahas and a bulldog. He's all over the board sometimes...

Thanks for the guidance. Our dog is just plain old (blindness, hard of hearing, and everything that goes with that), has some hip issues, and lately, bowel incontinence. He keeps to himself and sleeps a lot, and our Henry really never bothers him except for an occasional petting (or screaming at when he's whining at the dinner table). I wouldn't tolerate growling or nipping if it got to that, so I think you made the right decision. We're just grappling with the quality of life issue (and tired of cleaning up after him). It will be interesting to see how our guy reacts when the time comes.
